The Kwara State Police Command has assured residents that intensive efforts are underway to rescue more than 100 people abducted by bandits in Kaiama Local Government Area nearly five months ago.

Eko Hot Blog reports that State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, gave the assurance during a press conference in Ilorin on Friday, saying security agencies are treating the rescue operation as a top priority.

Ojo explained that operational details could not be disclosed for security reasons but stressed that every available resource was being deployed to secure the victims’ freedom.

“Details of our operations cannot be made public for security reasons, but I want to assure the people that the issue is receiving serious attention. No stone will be left unturned to rescue the captives,” he said.

The victims were abducted during a deadly attack on Woro, Nuku and neighbouring communities in Kaiama Local Government Area in February, when armed bandits reportedly killed several residents, burnt houses and abducted over 100 people.

The assurance comes amid growing concerns from affected communities, which had earlier alleged that bandits rejected more than N100 million raised by residents as ransom and continued to hold the victims in captivity.

Community leaders also claimed the kidnappers threatened to force some of the younger captives into marriage and kill others if their demands were not met, although the claims have not been independently verified.

The latest assurance from the police is expected to provide some relief to families who have continued to wait for the safe return of their loved ones.
