House of Representatives Minority Leader Fred Agbedi has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would emerge victorious in the 2027 general election if former President Goodluck Jonathan becomes the party’s presidential candidate.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Agbedi made the remark during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, where he said Jonathan has neither declared his intention to contest nor ruled out joining the race.

According to him, despite the internal disagreements within the PDP, the party remains a formidable political force capable of reclaiming power.
“If former President Goodluck Jonathan is on the ballot, the PDP will win the 2027 election,” Agbedi said. “Although he has not announced any intention to run, he has also not dismissed the possibility.”
He added that the issue of which faction of the party would eventually produce the presidential candidate had yet to be resolved, expressing confidence that the legal process would favour his group.
Agbedi said, “Whether it is the Wike faction or the Turaki faction that will field the PDP’s presidential candidate is still before the courts, and we believe the judgement will be in our favour.”
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected claims by the Kabiru Turaki-led PDP faction that it submitted a list of candidates for the 2027 elections, including Jonathan as its presidential nominee, through a manual process.
The electoral commission explained that political parties are only permitted to submit candidates’ details through its official electronic portal, making manual submission inconsistent with its guidelines.
INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Ita-Messi, stated in Abuja that while she could not verify whether any list had been submitted by the faction, the commission’s rules do not recognise manual submission of candidates for elections.
Her clarification comes after the Turaki-led group alleged it was unable to access the electronic portal and therefore resorted to submitting its list manually.
