The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not have the capacity to win the 2027 presidential election.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Wike said the opposition party should instead focus on rebuilding its structures, winning elections at the state level and preparing for the 2031 general election.
The former Rivers State governor made the remarks on Tuesday during the August edition of his monthly media chat in Abuja.
According to him, the lingering internal crisis within the PDP has significantly weakened the party’s chances of mounting a successful presidential challenge in 2027.
“I have always said that the PDP can’t win the presidential election now.
“All we are doing is to win some sub national seats and organise the party against 2031,” Wike said.
The FCT minister maintained that the party must be honest with its members and supporters about its current political reality rather than creating unrealistic expectations.
He argued that winning the presidency requires strong nationwide structures, proper organisation and years of strategic planning, not merely presenting a candidate during an election cycle.
“We must be very clear to people. I don’t like people who think that because it’s just an election, you must win,” he stated.
Wike advised the PDP to use the forthcoming elections to strengthen its position in the states and the National Assembly while working towards becoming a stronger and more organised opposition party.
He also dismissed the notion that anyone could emerge shortly before an election and successfully contest for the presidency without adequate preparation.
“Being a president is not to come out today and run to be president, no. We have a crisis, and you can’t wake up within six months to be president of a country,” Wike added.
