Super Falcons Thrash Egypt 6-2 to Reach WAFCON Quarter-finals

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after an emphatic 6-2 victory over Egypt.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the nine time African champions produced a dominant display to secure qualification for the knockout stage and keep alive their bid for another continental title.

Asisat Oshoala gave Nigeria the lead from the penalty spot in first half stoppage time after the Super Falcons controlled much of the opening half.

Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 55th minute, finishing off another attacking move as the Falcons continued to pile pressure on the Egyptian defence.

Egypt pulled a goal back after N. Ghazy converted a penalty, offering her side a glimmer of hope.

However, Nigeria quickly regained control of the contest.

Uchenna Kanu made it 3-1 in the 81st minute before Chidinma Ucheibe converted another penalty three minutes later to extend the Super Falcons’ lead to 4-1.

Ghazy grabbed her second goal of the match in the 91st minute to reduce the deficit to 4-2, but Nigeria responded in emphatic fashion during stoppage time.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade calmly converted a penalty in the ninth minute of added time before Joy Omewa added the sixth goal moments later to complete an impressive victory.

The comprehensive win secured Nigeria’s place in the quarter-finals, where the Super Falcons will take on Group D winners Cameroon.
