The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of one of its personnel who was attacked and killed by a mentally unstable man while on internal security duty in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. The incident occurred on Monday in the Agbowa community along the Ikorodu Expressway.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lt. Col. Musa Yahaya, the soldier was struck on the head with a heavy log while attempting to calm a chaotic situation. Yahaya said the attacker overpowered the soldier before delivering the fatal blow.
He explained that the situation was quickly contained by soldiers at the scene, who neutralised the assailant and recovered the soldier’s weapon. The victim was immediately taken to Ikorodu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The soldier was later buried according to Islamic rites, with senior officers and colleagues present.
The Army stated that the 81 Division had launched a full investigation to determine whether any operational lapses contributed to the tragedy. The statement added that findings would guide future preventive measures.
The military extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the fallen soldier, describing him as a dedicated serviceman who served with honour. It also urged Nigerians to avoid spreading unverified information about the incident and to support ongoing investigations.

Yahaya appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing the importance of responsible reporting as the inquiry progresses.
