A 25-year-old suspected Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, fighter has surrendered to troops in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State after spending about 8 months with the terrorist group.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the development was reported on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, citing military sources.

The former fighter was identified as Ali Gambo Kanuri, a native of Ngarinna village in Monguno LGA.
According to the report, Gambo joined ISWAP about 8 months ago after he was introduced to the group by a friend.
He reportedly became disillusioned with life within the terrorist organisation and subsequently decided to leave.
Gambo is said to have escaped from the area controlled by the group before surrendering to troops in Monguno town.
He was taken into custody and later transferred to the appropriate authorities for further processing in line with established procedures for individuals who voluntarily disengage from terrorist groups.
The latest development comes amid ongoing military operations and efforts to encourage members of terrorist groups to abandon insurgency and surrender to security agencies.
