- Lagos To Host Inaugural Oil Industry Host Community Summit In 2027
- Targets trust, shared value in Nigeria’s oil industry
- Summit to push practical solutions to oil-host community conflicts
The inaugural oil industry Host Community Summit, HostComm™ , will hold on August 9 and 10, 2027, in Lagos, with organisers targeting practical solutions to longstanding challenges surrounding host community engagement in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Eko Hot Blog reports that HostComm™ was established by a consortium comprising Caritas Communications Limited, Africa Oil+Gas Report (AOGR) and Pedestal Africa as a platform to bridge the gap between regulatory requirements and their implementation at the community level.

The summit, themed “Building Trust, Creating Shared Value and Sustaining Development,” will focus on the operational, financial and governance challenges affecting relationships between oil companies and host communities.
According to the organisers, the event will shift discussions beyond policy and theory towards actionable solutions, conflict resolution and sustainable, bankable community development models.
The summit comes as the industry continues to implement provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, particularly the Host Communities Development Trust (HCDT) framework.
The organisers said the HCDT framework should be viewed not only as a statutory requirement but also as a key component of maintaining the social licence required for oil and gas operations across Nigeria.

They noted that sustainable energy production requires strong alignment between operators and host communities, adding that effective engagement could help reduce operational risks and support long-term investment.
The summit will also examine how the 3 per cent of operating expenditure allocated to Host Community Development Trusts under the PIA can be deployed to deliver measurable and sustainable benefits to communities.
The organisers said HostComm™ would provide a platform for stakeholders to address accountability, strengthen trust and develop mechanisms capable of translating regulatory compliance into improved relationships and shared prosperity.
They added that the summit would bring together relevant stakeholders from the oil and gas industry, government, regulators, host communities and other sectors to explore practical approaches to sustainable host community development.
