Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who appointed Oba Ogunsanwo as LASU’s 6th Chancellor in February, presented the honours to him.

Expressing profound gratitude following his graduation, the monarch attributed the milestone entirely to divine grace.
“Today, I give all thanks and glory to the Almighty God for His grace, mercy, and faithfulness as I proudly graduate as a Doctor of Business Administration from the prestigious Lagos State University,” Oba Ogunsanwo said.
He described the journey as one marked by challenges overcome and opportunities seized, and extended warm congratulations to fellow graduands.
“I also celebrate and congratulate all other recipients of Professional and Academic Doctorate Degrees on this remarkable achievement. May this new chapter open doors to greater accomplishments, wisdom, impact, and fulfilment in our various endeavours,” the monarch said.

The graduation adds a rare dimension to Oba Ogunsanwo’s relationship with LASU.
In February, following his appointment as Chancellor and a courtesy visit by the university’s management, the monarch had disclosed that he was already a student of the institution and was close to completing the programme.
“As God will have it, I am also a student of this great institution. I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Business Administration,” he said at the time, noting that he was in his third year and expected to graduate before the year’s end.
He had also made clear then that his academic training would feed directly into his service to the university.
“All the things you have been teaching us in public administration and business administration, we will return them to you in service, contributing to the progress and success of this university,” Oba Ogunsanwo said.

His graduation comes just over two months after his maiden familiarisation visit to the university on June 8, 2026, during which he outlined a five-point vision for LASU centred on global competitiveness, research and innovation excellence, entrepreneurship, effective governance, and national development.
He had pledged to leverage his professional network, international connections, and royal goodwill to advance the institution’s global standing, and called for broader collaboration between government, alumni, corporate organisations, and development partners in support of the university.
Before ascending the throne as the Alara of Ilara Kingdom in Epe Division, Lagos State, Oba Ogunsanwo built a distinguished professional career spanning taxation, management, and institutional leadership.

He holds fellowship designations from the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCTI) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM), and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Directors (MCIoD), credentials that speak to decades of engagement at senior levels of Nigeria’s professional and business environment.
