- CAN President Daniel Okoh urged Nigerians to promote mercy, justice and compassion during Eid-el-Maulud

The Christian Association of Nigeria has called on Nigerians to make compassion, justice, mercy and peaceful coexistence key principles in their daily lives as Muslims commemorate Eid-el-Maulud.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, made the appeal in an Eid-el-Maulud message on Tuesday, where he congratulated Muslims across the country and prayed for blessings and peace in their families and communities.
Okoh said the commemoration of Prophet Muhammad’s birth offered an opportunity for Muslims and other Nigerians to reflect on the values associated with his life, including honesty, compassion for the vulnerable, justice and peaceful coexistence.
He said these principles were particularly important in Nigeria, where social and political differences were sometimes exploited for personal or political interests.
The CAN president noted that many Nigerians were currently facing economic hardship and insecurity, with rising living costs placing additional pressure on families.
He therefore urged governments at all levels to move beyond promises and take concrete steps to improve citizens’ welfare, strengthen security and provide economic relief.
According to Okoh, effective leadership should be judged by the improvements Nigerians can experience in their daily lives rather than by political promises.
He also appealed to politicians preparing for the 2027 elections to avoid using religious and ethnic differences to gain political advantage.
Okoh urged Christians and Muslims to reject attempts to divide them, stressing that political contests were temporary while the unity and stability of Nigeria should remain a collective priority.
He expressed optimism about the country’s future but said achieving meaningful progress would require responsible leadership, justice and active participation from citizens.
The CAN president called on Nigerians to use the Eid-el-Maulud celebration to renew their commitment to compassion, peace and human dignity.
He wished Muslims across the country a peaceful Eid-el-Maulud and prayed for continued blessings and peace for Nigeria.
