The lawmakers demanded an immediate explanation from the Lagos State Director of the DSS regarding the reasons behind the invasion.
They also called on National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to launch a full investigation into the incident and present the public with a comprehensive report of the findings. Additionally, the Assembly urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene promptly to prevent further escalation of the situation.
The incident, which was widely viewed as an abuse of legislative procedure, prompted the lawmakers to emphasize the importance of protecting democratic governance. Hon. Abiodun Tobun, speaking during the session, firmly rejected any form of governmental overreach, stating, “This is not a government ruled by the barrel of a gun. This is an aberration of democracy and a step toward anarchy. What happened today is a total embarrassment and an act of harassment.”
Tobun also expressed unwavering support for the Speaker of the House, affirming, “Nobody can dictate to us. God chooses and removes leaders. We are solidly behind your leadership, Mr. Speaker, nobody can remove you.” His comments underscored the lawmakers’ resolve to safeguard the legislative body’s independence and the integrity of the democratic process.
The lawmakers speculated that powerful individuals or groups may be behind the invasion and insisted on a thorough investigation to identify those responsible. They emphasized that such actions, if left unchecked, could undermine the authority of the legislature and threaten the foundations of democracy in Lagos State.
