EKO HOT BLOG reports that during the visit, a government official explained to the Minister that the floodwater affecting the area was coming from the Maitama hills, while Wike inspected a designated drainage channel where a structure had reportedly been erected despite the revocation of the plot more than a decade ago.
The Minister’s visit followed concerns raised by residents after heavy rainfall on Saturday, August 15, caused flooding across several parts of the Federal Capital Territory, leaving motorists stranded and forcing some businesses to shut temporarily.
Several major roads and residential areas were affected by the flooding, including Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse 2, the area around Delight Event Centre in Gudu and parts of Efab Estate in Lokogoma. The bridge linking Gaduwa and Durumi was also affected, disrupting movement between the communities.
Several vehicles were submerged in the floodwaters, while some buildings were also affected as the water spread across residential and commercial areas. Many commuters were forced to take alternative routes as they attempted to avoid the flooded roads and prevent damage to their vehicles.

Following the incident, residents took to social media to call on Wike and the FCT Administration to intervene and find a lasting solution to the recurring flooding in affected communities.
The Minister’s inspection on Tuesday comes as the FCT Administration examines the drainage system and other factors contributing to flooding in Maitama and other parts of Abuja.
