EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking at the party’s headquarters, Bala told journalists that his emergence was in line with the provisions of the ADC constitution and the Electoral Act. He explained that following the resignation of Ralph Nwosu as National Chairman, the constitution empowered him, as Deputy National Chairman, to step into the position.
“Our party’s former National Chairman voluntarily resigned his position. As far as our party is concerned, the Electoral Act and our constitution state that the Deputy National Chairman can take over the leadership of the party. I now resume office as the authentic National Chairman of the ADC,” Bala said.
However, following Nwosu’s resignation, former Senate President David Mark had earlier been announced as Interim National Chairman, a decision Bala dismissed as unconstitutional.
He accused opposition coalition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of attempting to hijack the party, stressing that the ADC constitution makes no provision for external influence in matters of succession.
“As our party’s national leadership, we are not aware of any change of leadership,” Bala said, insisting that his position was legitimate.
The development signals another phase of crisis in the ADC, with Bala rejecting the coalition-backed leadership arrangement and moving to consolidate his claim as the rightful leader of the party.
