The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has formally submitted the name of its presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party disclosed this in a letter signed by its National Secretary, Olu Agunloye, following its national convention and presidential primary held in Bauchi State.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the SDP, the convention and presidential primary were conducted peacefully at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.
Adebayo emerged as the party’s sole aspirant and secured the support of delegates and party members to clinch the presidential ticket unopposed.
In the letter titled “Submission of the Name and Other Details of SDP Presidential Candidate,” the party informed INEC that “the presidential candidate nominated by the Social Democratic Party for sponsorship in the 2027 presidential election is Prince Adewole Adebayo.”
The SDP also requested the electoral commission to provide all necessary nomination documents required to complete the candidate’s nomination process.
The documents requested include Forms EC9, EC9A, EC9B, EC9C, EC9D and EC9E.
Adebayo previously contested as the SDP presidential candidate during the 2023 general election.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed May 23, 2026, for its presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ruling party also dismissed reports claiming that the exercise had been postponed.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described reports circulating on social media and other platforms regarding changes to the timetable as false and misleading.

Morka said the party’s presidential primary would proceed as scheduled, urging members and the public to disregard unverified information about the exercise.
