- AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Youssouf expressed deep concern, describing the strikes as a “serious intensification of hostilities” that could worsen global instability and threaten African economic resilience.
- European Council President António Costa called the developments “greatly concerning” and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to safeguarding regional security and ensuring nuclear safety.
- The strikes targeted Iranian cities on Saturday, triggering explosions in Tehran, with U.S. President Trump framing the action as necessary to “destroy” Iran’s missile capabilities.
The African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) have strongly condemned the joint military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against targets inside Iran, calling for immediate restraint and a de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

Youssouf warned that continued conflict threatens to exacerbate global instability, with serious implications for energy markets, food security, and economic resilience—particularly across the African continent, where economic pressures remain acute.
“Sustainable peace can only be achieved through diplomacy, not through force,” Youssouf stated.
He urged all parties to abide by international law and the UN Charter and called for diplomatic engagement, including international mediation efforts led by the Sultanate of Oman.
Similarly, European Council President António Costa stressed the EU’s “steadfast commitment to safeguarding regional security and stability.”
In a joint stance, EU leaders emphasized the critical importance of ensuring nuclear safety and preventing further escalations that could undermine the global non-proliferation regime.

Costa noted that the EU has already adopted extensive sanctions against Iran’s regime and the Revolutionary Guards and pledged to take all necessary steps to support EU citizens in the region.
The EU leaders called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and protect civilians.
