- Salama expressed confidence in the party’s readiness to conduct a seamless and rancour-free LGA congress

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee for the Ward and Local Government Area (LGA) Congresses in Lagos State has screened no fewer than 540 aspirants vying for various party offices across the state’s 20 local government areas.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Chairman of the five-member screening committee, Mr Nungji Salama, disclosed this on Friday while addressing journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting in Ikeja. He expressed confidence in the party’s readiness to conduct a seamless and rancour-free LGA congress.

Salama described Lagos as a pace-setter in party organisation and said adequate arrangements had been made to ensure a peaceful exercise.
“Today’s exercise is very germane to the success of tomorrow’s congress. We have successfully conducted the ward congress without any problem, and now we are commencing the processes leading to the LGA congress,” he said.

He commended aspirants for offering themselves to serve the party and urged those who may not emerge victorious to remain sportsmanlike. According to him, 27 executives are expected to emerge from each of the 20 LGAs.
Salama noted that consensus arrangements would be adopted where aspirants reach unanimous agreements, subject to ratification by the party.
In his remarks, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, praised the screening committee and described the congress as critical to deepening internal democracy and strengthening the party’s structure.
Ojelabi urged successful candidates to see their emergence as a call to service rather than a routine political exercise.
“It is not going to be business as usual. You are offering yourselves to serve. You must work assiduously for the success of our party,” he said.
He also called on party leaders to familiarise themselves with the amended Electoral Act and emphasised the importance of inclusive leadership, noting that youths and women must not be sidelined.
The meeting was attended by key party figures, including the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, and the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro.
As of the time of filing this report, the list of screened candidates across the 20 LGAs had yet to be displayed at the party secretariat.
