EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a recent statement, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the favored candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the position of Senate President in the upcoming 10th National Assembly, acknowledged that his election ultimately depended on the decision of his fellow senators.

Akpabio made these remarks during the induction program for newly elected members of the House and Senate in Abuja on Monday.

Expressing his confidence in the divine will, he stated, “I am not worried about anything because I believe that the will of God will be done. In terms of being the Senate President, it is in the hands of my colleagues, the Senators-elect. They will take the decision, and the will of God will be done.”

Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between lawmakers and the party, Akpabio recognized that the Senators themselves were responsible for electing the Senate President. However, he stressed the need for collaboration between the leadership and the administration once the positions were established.

On the subject of zoning, the APC’s preferred choice for deputy speaker of the House, Hon. Kalu from Abia State, noted that a unified House would better enable President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to achieve his goals for the country.

Kalu stated, “A more consolidated House is better for the incoming administration if the objectives set by it are to be achieved. We must work as a formidable front towards confronting the hydra-headed problems confronting us as Nigerians.”

Reiterating his allegiance to the party’s decisions, Kalu emphasized the party’s significant role in shaping the government’s structure. He pointed out that the party provided him with the platform to enter the House of Representatives, and as a result, he would align himself with the party’s position.

While expressing his desire to become the Speaker of the House, Kalu acknowledged that the final decision would be reached by the party.

He highlighted his reasons for aspiring to the position, including the absence of a representative from the southeastern region in that position for 40 years and the existence of competent individuals capable of fulfilling the responsibilities of the mandate effectively.

Kalu revealed that the party had reached a decision, and they were eagerly awaiting the official announcement. He affirmed their readiness to comply with the party’s wishes in order to maintain cohesion within the party and garner respect.
