Fake bank call

Fake bank call is one pattern of fraud that has been in existence for quite some time now. Research has shown that a vast majority of Nigerians, most especially the aged and uninformed ones have fallen prey to the gimmick of fake bank call fraud.

EDITOR’S PICK:

So, in this article on EKO HOT BLOG we would be looking at ways to identify a fake bank call, so you can act fast.

1. They tell you your account is going to be blocked or it’s probably hacked, and you should present your sensitive bank details like ATM card information, BVN, OTP and transaction code to help solve the issue.

Most of their calls are usually in a distressed manner, which is aimed at pressurizing you to reveal your confidential bank information with the view of helping you solve the problem.

In this pattern, they will call you to tell you how someone wants to hack your account or is probably trying to extort your money, thus; asking you to provide valid information about your bank and transaction code with the idea of blocking the hacker.

When the conversation is structured in this manner, it is definitely a scheme to swindle you of your money via the information they have asked for. When you receive phone calls of this sort, do not yield to the caller’s request, because it is against the banking policy for agents or workers to ask customers for such kind of information.

2. The caller is persistent, and they usually sound desperate in urging you to provide the aforementioned bank details.

One thing you will notice from the fake bank caller is that they are usually persistent and desperate to obtain the bank details they have asked for. This is usually shown in their series of phone calls, urging you to be fast with providing the information before the hacker gains access to your account. When this is the case, it is a fraud.

3. They will discourage you from coming or calling the bank helpline if you intend to do so.

In their description, they will discourage you from calling your bank helpline for confirmation or even coming to the bank.
