EKO HOT BLOG reports that sources familiar with the discussions told The Cable that the meeting focused on strengthening opposition collaboration and safeguarding Nigeria’s democratic future ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The gathering comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to build alliances capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.
Amaechi, Obi, and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar are all members of the African Democratic Congress and are believed to be positioning themselves for the party’s presidential ticket.
Amaechi had previously contested the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress but finished second behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In March, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed that the party was considering a consensus approach in selecting its presidential candidate. He noted that while direct primaries and consensus remain options, indirect primaries have been ruled out under the amended Electoral Act.
Amaechi, however, has rejected the idea of a consensus arrangement, insisting that aspirants should test their popularity through a competitive process.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, he said he had positioned himself as a strong contender for the presidency on the ADC platform.
He argued that Nigerians are seeking capable leadership to address economic hardship and insecurity.

Despite his ambition, Amaechi stated that he would support Atiku Abubakar if the former vice-president emerges as the party’s presidential candidate.
