The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Lagos State APC Chairman’s Cup has announced plans to officially unveil the much-anticipated football tournament in October 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State Chairman’s Football Cup is positioned as a flagship project to actualize President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by harnessing youth talent for national development.
Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Conference 57 and Co-Chairman of the LOC, disclosed this on Friday, emphasizing that the initiative is designed to empower young people through sports.
Targeted at U-20 players across Lagos, the tournament is expected to engage over five million young Nigerians, reflecting the vision of Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Chairman of the APC Lagos State Chapter.
Designed as a community league with strong emphasis on talent discovery, the competition will feature matches at ward levels across the 57 local councils, from where finalists will emerge.
Hon. Olowa expressed optimism that the tournament will open doors for aspiring footballers, providing opportunities to shape their careers and future.
He stressed that the tournament is “strictly apolitical and carries no political coloration,” adding that it will also promote voter education by encouraging youths to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Plans are underway to establish PVC registration points at the tournament venues for easier access.
The initiative is being executed in partnership with private sector stakeholders and football governing bodies, including the Federal Government Football Agency and the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, ensuring technical and professional support for a smooth tournament.
The grand unveiling will take place at the APC Lagos State Chapter Secretariat, Acme, Ikeja, where Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to serve as Chief Host alongside state executives and legislators.
Hon. Adedola Jokomba, Secretary of the APC Lagos State Chapter, affirmed that the football competition will “reduce crime, empower youths, and provide exposure to international communities.”
