EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, the APC said it was disturbed by what it described as unfortunate developments emerging from the House of Assembly.
While acknowledging the constitutional powers of the legislature as an independent arm of government, the party insisted that resorting to impeachment was unjustified and unacceptable under the current circumstances.
The APC said it could not remain silent while unresolved internal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party were allowed to escalate and threaten the stability of an APC led government in Rivers State.
According to the party, the impeachment threat appears to be connected to budgetary concerns, which it argued do not warrant such an extreme legislative action.
The party recalled that during the period of emergency governance in the state, President Bola Tinubu transmitted a budget to the National Assembly in May 2025. It said the appropriation was approved by the Senate on June 25, 2025, and by the House of Representatives on July 22, 2025, with a total allocation of ₦1.485 trillion.
The APC noted that the budget was designed to run for one year, up to August 2026, and argued that the governor is not constitutionally required to present a supplementary budget if satisfied with the existing appropriation.
The party further stated that the Constitution allows a governor to continue spending for up to six months into a new fiscal year, insisting that the impeachment move lacks both legal and moral justification.
The Rivers APC urged members of the House of Assembly, particularly lawmakers elected on the party’s platform, to resist what it described as external pressure aimed at destabilising the state government.
“We will do everything possible to ensure that the APC led government of Rivers State is not undermined through internal disagreements,” the statement said.

The party called on lawmakers to immediately discontinue the impeachment process, warning that it could damage the image of the APC and derail ongoing development efforts in Rivers State. It urged all political actors to prioritise democratic values, peace and stability over political rivalry.
