Mrs. Uchechi Kanu, wife of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has stated that the apologies tendered by her husband’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, SAN, at the Federal High Court in Abuja are beginning to yield positive results.

She explained that the senior lawyer took the initiative to clarify past altercations and heated exchanges at Justice Binta Nyako’s court, emphasizing that such gestures would foster dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

During the court session, Agabi publicly apologized on behalf of Kanu, acknowledging past outbursts and extending apologies to Justice Nyako, the prosecution team, and Kanu’s legal representatives. He noted that Kanu had been angry for a long time and admitted that his attacks on Justice Nyako were unjustified. The lawyer also expressed regret over remarks Kanu had directed at the Federal Government’s counsel, a highly respected legal figure.

Reacting to these developments, Uchechi Kanu stated that her husband agreed it was necessary for Agabi, as his new lead counsel, to address Justice James Omotosho on the previous courtroom tensions that had shaken the Nigerian judiciary.

“Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN—a highly respected figure—acted to smooth ruffled feathers within the bar and bench, particularly following my husband’s frustration-driven outbursts that led to Justice Binta Nyako’s recusal,” she said.

She further emphasized that Agabi’s legal standing required him to restore decorum in the court, ensuring a level of respect acceptable to both the Abuja judiciary and the legal profession as a whole.

Notably, Justice Omotosho also acknowledged Kanu’s prolonged legal ordeal, apologizing for the delays and mishandling of his case by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
