According to Uba, sustained offensives and increased pressure on the bandits forced the criminals into retreat, enabling troops to trace them to Tunga Village, where contact was established and the rescue operation carried out.

He explained that the abductors shot Mrs. Abubakar during the encounter before abandoning her and fleeing as soldiers advanced on their position.
The rescued woman was immediately taken to a military medical facility for treatment. Defence authorities said she is responding well to medical care and remains under close observation.
The Armed Forces assured the public that every necessary measure is being taken to support her recovery and provide assistance to her family.
The military also reiterated its resolve to apprehend those responsible for the abduction and intensify ongoing operations aimed at eliminating banditry and terrorism in Katsina State and other affected parts of the country.

Following the death of Major General Abubakar, the Defence Headquarters Joint Task Force North West under Operation FASAN YAMMA launched a large-scale offensive, tagged Operation Clean Sweep III, targeting bandit hideouts in Matazu Local Government Area and surrounding communities.
Military authorities said the operation, which began on June 14, 2026, is focused on tracking down those linked to the attack, dismantling criminal networks, and restoring peace and security across the affected areas.
