Just weeks after helping the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the Africa Nations Cup in Egypt, Arsenal are believed to have rejected a bid for Alex Iwobi from Everton.
The Toffees turned to the winger, who made 51 appearances in all competitions last season for the Gunners after seeing at least two bids for Wilfried Zaha knocked back by Crystal Palace and with Marco Silva determined to improve his squad.
An initial offer said to be around £30 million ($36m) was submitted for the 23-year-old including add-ons but Arsenal rejected it and with a few hours left, Everton are believed to be working to submit an improved bid to further test Arsenal’s resolve, especially with the arrival of Nicolas Pepe from Lille.
