Confirming the development on Sunday, the Village Head of Kurmin Wali, Ishaku Dan’azumi, explained that earlier figures suggesting about 177 abductees were revised after proper verification. He said the escapees fled their captors at different times and found safety in neighbouring communities.
According to Dan’azumi, 86 worshippers are still being held by the bandits, prompting renewed calls for urgent security intervention.
“Some people are trying to politicise our situation, while families of the victims are going through deep trauma,” he said.

“We are appealing to the government and the military to act swiftly and ensure the safe rescue of the remaining 86 people still in captivity.”
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command said it would issue an official statement on the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed that a detailed report on the Kurmin Wali abduction would be released.
