EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident took place in Bode Saadu, Edu Local Government Area. The assailants, riding motorcycles, struck in the early hours and unleashed violence on the community.
The slain officer has been identified as Sergeant Abdulraheem, who was reportedly responding to earlier distress calls. The pregnant woman, reportedly a civilian, was caught in the crossfire. Survivors said she had been taken along during the abduction.
Eight others were also kidnapped in the attack, including women and older children. Some of the victims were wounded in the rampage and are receiving treatment in nearby health centres.
Community leaders condemned the assault, saying it reflects the grim security challenges that continue to plague rural parts of Kwara. They appealed to security agencies to intensify patrols and rescue operations.
The Kwara State Police Command has launched an operation to track down the kidnappers. AIG (Operations) in the region has promised swift response and deployed tactical units to the affected area.
This attack adds to a growing list of violent incursions in Kwara, where bandits and insurgents have repeatedly assaulted villages, kidnapped residents, and disrupted local life. Analysts say the porous forest borders, inadequate policing, and local collaboration may be contributing factors.
As investigations proceed, residents remain anxious, and calls for better rural security and intelligence sharing are growing louder.
