Biden Doubts ‘Peaceful Transition’ if Trump Loses Election
In a recent interview, US President Joe Biden expressed doubts about a peaceful transition of power should Donald Trump lose the upcoming presidential election in November.
Speaking with CBS News, Biden said, “If Trump loses, I’m not confident at all.”
Biden elaborated on his concerns, stating, “[Trump] means what he says, we don’t take him seriously. He means it, all this stuff about ‘if we lose it will be a bloodbath’.” This remark refers to a comment made by Trump in March, where he warned of a “bloodbath for the country” if he lost the election, initially referencing the auto industry.
The remark has sparked significant backlash. Democrats have used it to underscore their message that Trump poses a threat to democracy.
The Biden campaign even featured the “bloodbath” comment in an advertisement, accusing Trump of “encouraging and excusing political violence.”
In defence, the Trump campaign argued that the comment was taken out of context, stating it specifically addressed the impact of imports on the auto industry.

Trump himself claimed that his political opponents were “viciously” misquoting him.
Previously, Biden has voiced concerns about Trump’s potential refusal to accept the election results. During a presidential debate in June, Trump was asked if he would accept the 2024 election results.
He responded, “If it’s a fair and legal and good election, absolutely,” but only after initially dodging the question.
Trump’s history of making unfounded claims of election fraud in 2020, which culminated in the Capitol riot in January 2021, adds to Biden’s concerns. In the CBS interview, Biden hinted at efforts to complicate the post-election certification processes, saying, “Look what they’re trying to do now, in the local election districts where people count the votes.”
“You can’t love your country only when you win,” He added.
