Ekohotblog reports that among the active participants on Sunday were two passionate donors, Mr. Ahmad Shittu of the Youth Wing of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Social of Nigeria, and Mr. Oluwa AbdulWajud of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), LASU Epe Campus.

The duo, alongside other group members, donated blood as part of the awareness campaign.
Speaking during an interview, Mr. Shittu debunked common fears surrounding blood donation, stating that the process is entirely beneficial to the donor.
“It is our regular practice to donate blood here, and this donation has a lot of benefits for our body system,” he said.
“Before you donate blood, your blood must first be tested.
This screening helps detect any sickness early, without you having to pay for the test. If anything is found, it is treated in time.”
Using a vivid analogy, he likened the blood in the human body to water in a borehole tank:
“If you don’t change the water, it remains stagnant and might attract dirt.
But once you use the old water and pump in fresh one, you get a cleaner supply. That’s how it is with blood donation, your body produces new, healthy blood. You feel healthier, look younger, and your system is refreshed.”
Mr. Abdul Wajud shared a similar sentiment, highlighting how excess blood in the body can also lead to health issues if not checked.
“Too much blood in the body can cause certain sicknesses. There was a case of someone who had constant headaches. After medical examination, it was discovered he had excess blood. Immediately he donated some, the headaches disappeared,” he explained.
He also addressed people who are afraid of donating blood, saying:
“It’s important to tell those who have a phobia for blood donation that it has no negative effect. As you donate to save a life, you’re also saving your own life in the process.”
Both donors encouraged the public, especially healthy adults, to take part in the ongoing Blood Donation Week at FMC, Epe.

They urged residents to see blood donation not just as an act of charity but as a path to personal wellness.
“Anyone who truly cares about their health and is willing to help others should head to the Laboratory Department of FMC Epe and be a part of this life-saving campaign,” Mr. Shittu added.
