The body of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli air strike in southern Beirut, has been recovered, a source close to the movement told AFP yesterday.

The air strike, which took place on Friday, also claimed the life of Ali Karake, Hezbollah’s top commander in southern Lebanon, according to a statement from the group on Sunday. The names of others who died alongside Nasrallah and Karake have not been disclosed.

A medical and security source confirmed that Nasrallah’s body was found intact at the site of the Israeli strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Additionally, the Israeli military announced yesterday that it had killed Nabil Kaouk, a long-time Hezbollah member who had been with the group since the 1980s and formerly served as deputy director general of its southern operations, during ongoing exchanges between the two sides.

“His body was recovered on Saturday and was placed in a shroud on Sunday after being washed,” the source said, requesting anonymity. The funeral ceremony and his burial have not yet been arranged,” the source added.

Before his death on Friday in an Israeli air strike targeting Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Beirut, Hassan Nasrallah was widely regarded as the most powerful figure in Lebanon. For over three decades, he led the Iran-backed movement, which remained Israel’s staunchest adversary.

On Sunday, the Israeli military announced that “more than 20 other terrorists of various ranks” were also killed in the strike.

Hezbollah has not commented on Kaouk’s fate, but supporters have been posting mourning messages for him since yesterday. “The IDF continues to attack and eliminate the commanders of the Hezbollah terrorist organisation and to act against anyone who threatens the citizens of the State of Israel,” said the Israeli military.

It stated that Nabil Kaouk had been a member of Hezbollah since the 1980s and had previously held the position of deputy director general for the southern region.
