The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate resignation of Joash Amupitan as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), along with all national commissioners of the electoral body.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the party accused INEC’s leadership of compromising its neutrality and acting in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The demand was made on Thursday by the ADC National Chairman, David Mark, during a world press conference held in Abuja

Several prominent political figures attended the event, including Atiku Abubakar, Rauf Aregbesola, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, among others.
The party’s stance follows INEC’s recent decision to remove the names of Mark and Aregbesola from its official portal as the ADC’s National Chairman and National Secretary.
Addressing journalists, Mark accused President Bola Tinubu of undermining democratic principles, alleging that Nigerians are being denied their rights to freely choose leaders, participate in governance, and associate politically.
He further claimed that the current administration is positioning itself to dominate the 2027 elections without viable opposition, warning that such actions could push the country into unnecessary political tension.

Mark also criticised INEC for what he described as premature interference in the party’s internal leadership dispute, arguing that the commission should have waited for a final ruling from the Court of Appeal.
Despite INEC’s position, the ADC maintained that it would proceed with its scheduled activities, including congresses set to begin on April 9, 2026, and a national convention slated for April 14, 2026.
