Momodu, a known ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, said his decision aligns with the growing push for a broad-based opposition coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu and the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking ahead of his defection, the former presidential aspirant described the move as a homecoming, stressing that politics remains local. He noted that he was returning to reconnect with his roots in Edo State and to pay homage to the elders and leaders who had already adopted the ADC platform.
He disclosed that respected figures such as former APC National Chairman, John Oyegun, and former federal lawmaker, Yisa Braimoh, were present at the event, adding that he would also visit his hometown in Iwe to celebrate with his people.
Momodu called on Nigerians to rise above partisan differences and unite to defend democracy, warning against what he described as the emergence of a one-party state and a one-man dictatorship. He urged citizens across political divides to work together to safeguard the democratic ideals for which the late MKO Abiola had fought.

Addressing supporters in Benin City, Momodu said his political involvement is driven by national interest rather than personal ambition. He insisted that he is not seeking elective office but is committed to promoting the collective welfare of Nigerians.
He further pledged to join hands with like-minded citizens to rescue the country, stressing that the journey would require total commitment from Nigerians who refuse to be sidelined in their own nation.
Momodu also expressed appreciation to Chief John Oyegun for his resilience and sacrifices, thanking supporters for turning out on a weekday and promising not to betray their trust as the ADC charts a new political course.
