Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a ₦20 billion libel lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by Kanu’s lead counsel, Chief Aloy Ejimakor, accuses Adejobi of defamation.

Kanu’s legal action follows a press statement issued by Adejobi on January 25, in which he referred to IPOB as a “proscribed terrorist organisation.”
The statement was widely circulated in the media and linked IPOB’s armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to violent crimes in Imo State.
The lawsuit argues that Adejobi’s statements falsely portray Kanu as a terrorist leader, damaging his reputation and legal standing.

Kanu contends that these remarks were read by millions, including his friends, family, and supporters, leading to serious harm to his integrity and pending court cases.
Kanu is seeking several remedies from the court, including an order compelling Adejobi to retract his statements through a new press release and to issue a public apology published in The Sun, Daily Trust, and Vanguard newspapers.
He also demands a perpetual injunction preventing Adejobi from making similar statements in the future.
Additionally, Kanu is requesting ₦20 billion in damages for reputational harm and the cost of the legal proceedings.
His legal team insists that the statements go beyond fair comment and were made in bad faith to tarnish his image.
