BREAKING: Senator Anyanwu Wins Legal Battle, Returns as PDP Secretary

  • The judgment overturned the Appeal Court’s December 20, 2024, ruling that affirmed Anyanwu’s removal.
  • The Federal High Court in Enugu was deemed to have lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.

The Supreme Court of Nigeria, on Friday, reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), overturning his removal by lower courts.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-member panel, the apex court ruled that issues concerning the leadership or membership of a political party fall strictly within its internal affairs and should not be subject to judicial intervention.

As a result, the Supreme Court nullified the December 20, 2024, decision of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, which had upheld Anyanwu’s removal as ordered by a Federal High Court in Enugu.

The justices held that the Federal High Court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case brought by Aniagwu Emmanuel.
