EKO HOT BLOG reports that residents in the area said the building had shown signs of structural weakness prior to the collapse, raising fresh concerns over construction safety standards and compliance with regulations.
Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency responded shortly after receiving distress calls and have since been coordinating rescue efforts at the scene.
Emergency teams are working to evacuate trapped victims, although the exact number of those still under the rubble has not been confirmed.
Local residents have joined rescue workers in ongoing efforts to locate and assist those affected.
Security operatives, including personnel of the FCT Fire Service and the police, have cordoned off the area to prevent further danger and control crowd movement around the site.
Authorities said the restriction is necessary to ensure the safety of bystanders and allow rescue operations to proceed without disruption.
They also urged members of the public to stay away from the scene as emergency responders continue their work.

Experts have raised concerns that the collapse may be linked to poor supervision, use of substandard materials, or lack of adherence to approved building standards.
