EKO HOT BLOG reports that the event is expected to bring together officials from more than twenty national federations, signalling growing continental coordination and renewed momentum for Olympic style boxing in Africa.
The Nigeria Boxing Federation, led by Honourable Wale Edun, secured the hosting rights following approval from African Boxing, the continental authority operating under World Boxing. In an official letter to the federation, African Boxing described Nigeria as a strategic nation with the capacity to drive broad advancement of the sport across the region.
The communication also confirmed the appointment of the NBF Vice President, Honourable Omonlei Imadu, to the African Boxing Working Committee. He will also serve as Head of Organisation for the December congress. Imadu welcomed the development, noting that Nigeria has a strong opportunity to stage a world class gathering that can elevate the federation’s profile and strengthen its leadership position on the continent.
He added that the hosting rights place Nigeria in a favourable position to be selected as the venue for the African qualifiers ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. According to him, the congress will also open pathways for new developmental programmes that can boost Olympic style boxing growth nationwide.

In a further endorsement of Nigeria’s hosting capacity, African Boxing confirmed that its continental headquarters will be established in Lagos, reinforcing the country’s emerging status as a major hub for boxing administration in Africa.
