Burna Boy: Speed Darlington’s Lawyer Shares New Update on His Ongoing Detention

The lawyer representing embattled Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, Stan Alieke, has confirmed that the legal case involving the controversial artist and fellow singer Burna Boy has been formally charged to court.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Darlington was re-arrested by police in Owerri, Imo State, after returning to Nigeria for a show. He was subsequently transferred to the Police Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja, where he remains in detention.

In an interview, human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju alleged that powerful forces are behind Darlington’s arrest and continued detention, claiming the Nigeria Police Force is infringing on the singer’s rights.

Adeyanju dismissed suggestions that Darlington intended to jump bail, stating the singer had an emergency in the U.S. but returned to Nigeria afterward.

Adeyanju revealed that a fundamental rights proceeding has been filed at the Federal High Court to secure Darlington’s release.

Providing an update, Alieke explained on Monday that Darlington, also known as “Akpi,” was not arraigned last week because the judges were attending a conference.

He further noted that the courts would close next week for the festive season and remain on recess until late January.
