Declaring the result, UK Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood announced that Burnham had been duly elected as the party’s new leader.
“With no other validly nominated candidate, it is my honour to declare Andy Burnham as the duly elected leader of the Labour Party,” Mahmood said.

Burnham takes over the party following the resignation of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who stepped down as Labour leader after facing increasing political pressure.
The former Greater Manchester Mayor is expected to officially take office as Prime Minister on Monday after the completion of the constitutional transition.
In his acceptance speech, Burnham promised to reunite the Labour Party, rebuild public trust in government and pursue reforms focused on devolving more powers to local authorities, improving public services and strengthening the economy.
