EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during an interview on Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, Trump confirmed the development but withheld specific details about the buyers.
“We have a buyer for TikTok, by the way,” Trump said. “Very wealthy people. It’s a group of wealthy people,” he added, noting that their identities would be disclosed in about two weeks.
Trump also acknowledged that approval from the Chinese government would likely be necessary for the sale to proceed. “I think President Xi (Jinping) will probably do it,” he said.
TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a China-based internet technology company. The platform has been at the center of intense scrutiny in the United States over national security concerns linked to its Chinese ownership.
A federal law mandating TikTok’s sale or an outright ban on national security grounds was initially set to take effect a day before Trump’s inauguration on January 20. However, Trump, who had actively used social media during his 2024 election campaign and has expressed admiration for TikTok’s reach, paused the enforcement.
In mid-June, Trump granted the platform another 90-day extension to secure a non-Chinese buyer or face a ban in the US. The deadline was recently extended for the third time, pushing it to June 19.
While Trump previously advocated strongly for TikTok’s ban or divestment, he softened his stance in recent months, admitting that the app played a significant role in helping him win support from young voters during the November election.
“I have a little warm spot in my heart for TikTok,” he told NBC News in May.
Trump earlier mentioned that the potential buyers were prepared to pay a substantial sum to acquire TikTok’s US operations. However, he also revealed that trade tensions between the US and China, particularly disputes over tariffs, had delayed a possible agreement.

ByteDance has since confirmed ongoing negotiations with US authorities and stressed that any transaction would still require clearance under Chinese law.
