Chelsea Football Club has strongly denounced the racial abuse directed at defender Wesley Fofana following their recent Premier League clash with Arsenal.
Fofana took to Instagram on Monday to share some of the offensive messages he received after the match, writing: “2025, stupidity and cruelty no longer hide… It’s not just football, it’s not just a ‘game’ when some believe their skin color makes them superior to others. It’s time for things to change, for platforms to take action, and for everyone to take responsibility.”
In an official statement released via the club’s website, Chelsea said it was “appalled and disgusted” by the growing trend of online racism targeting its players.
“The abuse Wes Fofana has been subjected to following yesterday’s fixture is abhorrent and will not be tolerated,” the club stated.

Chelsea expressed full support for Fofana and pledged to cooperate with authorities in tracking down and punishing those responsible.
“We will work with the relevant authorities to identify the perpetrators and take the strongest possible action,” the statement added.
The abuse followed Chelsea’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium. The decisive moment came in the 20th minute when Mikel Merino headed home a Martin Odegaard corner, securing the win and keeping Chelsea in fourth place in the Premier League standings.
