The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is set to administer the oath of office to Justice Joseph Oyewole as a new Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on Wednesday.

Before his elevation, Justice Oyewole served at the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, where he was the Presiding Justice of the Enugu Division. His appointment to the apex court forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary and enhance its effectiveness.

The National Judicial Council recommended Oyewole for elevation alongside 35 other nominees for different judicial positions during its 110th meeting held on January 13, 2026, under the leadership of the Chief Justice.
In a statement released by the court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr Festus Akande, the appointment was described as a strategic move to bolster the Supreme Court’s ability to deliver prompt and impartial judgments.
The statement highlighted Oyewole’s distinguished service at the Court of Appeal, noting that his experience and integrity would further enrich the bench.

It added that the swearing-in marks another milestone in ongoing efforts to revitalise the judiciary and uphold the highest standards of competence and fairness.
Guests attending the event were advised to comply strictly with court protocols and security guidelines.
