President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has dismissed reports claiming he was involved in a heated confrontation with his Moroccan counterpart, Fouzi Lekjaa, following Nigeria’s defeat to Morocco.
The reports, which circulated widely on social media after the match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, alleged that Gusau clashed with the President of the Morocco Football Federation, who is also a vice president of the Confederation of African Football. The NFF president has, however, described the claim as false and misleading.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking through a statement issued by NFF communications, Gusau said he was surprised by the report and insisted that no such incident occurred before or after the match.
“I really don’t know where the report is coming from. Nigeria and Morocco have very cordial relationships in football and even at the level of government. Personally, I have always had a good relationship with Mr Lekjaa,” he said.
Gusau stressed that there was no confrontation or exchange of words between him and the Moroccan FA president, adding that the incident described in the report never happened.
He also rejected claims that he made comments about the officiating, which were said to have triggered the alleged disagreement.
“Before the match, I publicly made it known that the NFF was not apprehensive about the officiating. After the match, I made no comments whatsoever. I am totally bemused at where the reporter got his story that Mr Lekjaa and myself engaged in a shouting match because of my comments on the officiating,” Gusau stated.
While Nigeria’s semi final loss generated debate among fans and players over refereeing decisions, the NFF president adopted a diplomatic tone and praised the organisers of the tournament.
“As far as the NFF is concerned, we only have praises for the Morocco Football Federation, the Local Organising Committee, the Government of Morocco and the Confederation of African Football for organising a very successful AFCON,” he said.

Gusau added that the competition lived up to its status as Africa’s flagship football event, noting that its organisation, atmosphere and overall spectacle would be remembered for years.
