Job Summary

Nigeria Health Watch seeks a meticulous and experienced Content Quality Editor to ensure the highest editorial standards across all its platforms. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in journalism, particularly health reporting and solutions journalism. This role involves content review, editorial strategy development, and oversight of story approvals, publication goals, and content relevance for public health advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial Oversight:

  • Uphold editorial guidelines, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and objectivity in all content.
  • Supervise writers, provide feedback, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality articles.
  • Review content for grammar, style, accuracy, and proper referencing.

Content Strategy & Development:

  • Develop compelling story ideas and content strategies aligned with public health advocacy.
  • Monitor global health trends to inform editorial direction.
  • Explore innovative content formats, including multimedia and data journalism.

Editorial Leadership:

  • Lead editorial meetings, shaping content strategy and priorities.
  • Oversee editorial reports and analysis.

Freelancer Management:

  • Engage and evaluate freelance writers and content developers.
  • Ensure high-quality and timely submissions from external contributors.

General Responsibilities:

  • Develop partnerships with journalists, media houses, and organizations to enhance visibility.
  • Support audience growth strategies, including newsletter expansion and content diversification.
  • Contribute to partnership meetings, proposal writing, and project strategy formulation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in editing, journalism, or content strategy, preferably in the health sector or non-profits.
  • Strong editorial skills with a commitment to accuracy and consistency.
  • Excellent communication, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms and email marketing tools (e.g., MailChimp).
  • Ability to manage teams and work independently.
  • Understanding of data journalism and project management tools.
  • Passion for public health communication and advocacy.
