EKO HOT BLOG reports that in its ruling delivered on Friday, the court also restrained members of the National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki from parading themselves as national officers of the opposition party.
The court held that the convention failed to comply with the provisions of the PDP constitution and other relevant guidelines governing the conduct of national party conventions. It consequently ruled that all decisions and outcomes arising from the convention lacked legal standing.
Delivering judgment, the presiding judge declared that the Caretaker Committee jointly led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only legally recognised leadership of the PDP. The court said the committee would continue to oversee the party’s affairs pending the conduct of a valid and properly constituted national convention.
The ruling is the latest twist in the prolonged leadership crisis rocking the PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, which has been engulfed in internal disputes and legal battles over the control of its national structure.
The party has faced deepening internal divisions since its poor outing in the 2023 general elections, with rival factions laying claim to the leadership of the party. These disputes have resulted in multiple court cases across the country, further weakening the party’s cohesion and public image.
Political observers note that the court’s decision could have far-reaching implications for the PDP’s efforts to reorganise and reposition itself ahead of future elections. The judgment is also expected to intensify calls within the party for unity, reconciliation and adherence to constitutional processes.

As of the time of filing this report, the PDP leadership had yet to issue an official response to the ruling.
