EKO HOT BLOG reports that Liverpool’s summer signing, Hugo Ekitike, opened the scoring just four minutes into his debut, finishing off a pass from fellow newcomer Florian Wirtz. Palace hit back when Jean-Philippe Mateta converted a penalty after Virgil van Dijk fouled Ismaila Sarr.
The Reds regained the lead through Jeremie Frimpong, whose attempted cross looped over goalkeeper Dean Henderson into the far corner. However, Sarr equalised in the second half, slotting home from Adam Wharton’s precise pass to force penalties.
In the shootout, Henderson emerged as the hero, saving efforts from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott, while Mohamed Salah sent his spot-kick over the bar. Although Alisson Becker stopped Eberechi Eze’s penalty and Borna Sosa struck the crossbar, Oliver Glasner’s men held their nerve to secure a famous win.
Henderson, who was pivotal in Palace’s FA Cup success last season, once again delivered in a high-pressure moment, cementing his reputation as a big-game player. The victory marks a major milestone for Palace, showcasing their growing stature in English football.

For Liverpool, it was another disappointing day at Wembley, adding to recent frustrations in domestic cup competitions.
