Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, is set to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwoko’s Director of Communications, Gloria Okolugbo, shared on Arise TV that the senator announced his plans to switch parties during a meeting with Delta North stakeholders, supporters, and constituents. She explained that Nwoko is frustrated with the PDP and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for sidelining Delta North in important matters, making it difficult for him to fulfill his promises to the people.

Okolugbo cited examples of the PDP’s lack of support, including its refusal to fund the Okpai Independent Power Project (IPP) to provide electricity for over 60 communities in Delta North, and the Ogwashi-Uku Dam project, which would have supplied water to the area. She stated that Nwoko sees no reason to stay in a party where he cannot deliver on his commitments to the people.

The lack of internal democracy within the Delta State PDP and ongoing factional issues were also highlighted as reasons for Nwoko’s decision. According to Okolugbo, the PDP has already lost its three senators in Delta State to the APC, leaving the ruling APC fully in control. She added that this shift could significantly weaken the PDP in the state.

Nwoko’s defection is expected to be made official soon, with tensions already rising within the PDP. Okolugbo emphasized that Nwoko is committed to ensuring good governance and accountability, and his move to the APC aligns with his vision for Delta North.
