One of the suspects was immediately apprehended on the spot, while the other managed to flee but was recaptured later the same day.
Confirming the incident in a telephone conversation on Sunday, spokesperson for the Ogun State Command of the NCoS, Olayinka Owolola, said both inmates were eventually tracked down without any injuries or gunfire.
“They attempted, but we captured the two of them without any shooting or injuries. We intend to retry them in court for attempting to escape,” Owolola stated.

Incidents of attempted jailbreaks remain a recurring challenge in Nigeria’s correctional system. In August, 16 inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, after reportedly overpowering security personnel.
Five officers were injured during the breakout, with two receiving treatment at a government hospital.
