The E1 Lagos Grand Prix kicked off on Saturday with an exciting qualifying time trial featuring nine teams competing in the all-electric powerboat race.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that divided into two groups, pilots raced their high-speed RaceBirds across the Lagos waters between the shores of Black Diamond and Oriental Hotels, battling for the fastest lap times ahead of the main qualifying races later in the evening.
At the end of the first trial session, Westbrook Racing, owned by Hollywood star Will Smith, secured the top spot with a time of 1:03:97, closely followed by Aoki Racing, which clocked 1:04:69. Team Brazil finished third with 1:04:80, while Team Drogba came fourth with 1:06:12.
The recorded times will determine the teams’ starting positions for the qualifying rounds and ultimately the final race on Sunday.
The Lagos Grand Prix marks the first time the E1 powerboat championship is being held in Africa.
The sport, which began in Jeddah last year, features eco-friendly electric-powered boats, combining cutting-edge technology with thrilling competition on water.
