Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has handed over executive powers to his deputy, Princess Patricia Obila, who will serve as Acting Governor while he proceeds on annual leave.
This development follows Section 190(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, confirmed receipt of Nwifuru’s letter formally transmitting authority to his deputy, enabling her to discharge the functions of governor in his absence.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Princess Obila has since assumed office as Acting Governor and immediately engaged in national discourse on agricultural development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the National and Regional Hand in Hand Investment Forum on Irrigation, organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Abuja, she emphasized the importance of irrigation in boosting crop yields and ensuring food security across Nigeria, West Africa, and the Sahel region.
Obila commended President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative in Agriculture, describing it as a step toward unlocking Nigeria’s vast agricultural potential.
She also highlighted Ebonyi State’s commitment to the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda under Governor Nwifuru, which prioritises agricultural advancement, irrigation projects, and farmer support schemes to drive economic diversification and job creation.
Her remarks underscored the state’s alignment with broader national efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and tackle food insecurity.
