EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking on Arise Television on Monday, El-Rufai said he remains committed to his political career and may seek an alternative platform if APC strays from its founding principles.
“I’m not ready to retire from politics, so sooner or later, I may have to find another platform to pursue the progressive values that I believe in if I can’t find them in the APC,” he stated.
El-Rufai also addressed speculation surrounding his failed ministerial nomination, clarifying that it was President Bola Tinubu who withdrew his nomination—not the National Assembly.
He debunked claims that a security report from the Department of State Services (DSS) was responsible for his exclusion from the cabinet, insisting that the president simply had a change of heart.
“Since I left office and the president publicly begged me to support him, I agreed and made it clear that I wanted nothing in return. After two months of negotiations, we agreed he would nominate me as minister, with certain conditions attached. But somewhere along the line, the president changed his mind,” El-Rufai explained.
He emphasized that the National Assembly played no role in the decision, stating, “Please don’t believe the story that the National Assembly rejected me—they had nothing to do with it. The president didn’t want me in his cabinet.”

While reaffirming his commitment to politics, El-Rufai maintained that his future in the APC depends on the party’s direction and adherence to its founding ideals.
