As part of activities marking the 2025 World Mental Health Day, the Lekki Local Council Development Area, under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), hosted an enlightening public lecture and medical outreach focused on improving mental health awareness, access, and overall community well-being.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the event, held at the Council Secretariat, brought together health professionals, stakeholders, and residents from various communities across Lekki LCDA.
It served as a platform to sensitize the public on the importance of mental health care, early diagnosis, and access to quality support services.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Dr. Ilemobayo, Senior Assistant at Ibeju-Lekki General Hospital, emphasized the global call to move from “awareness to action” in addressing mental health challenges.
He stressed that mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and stress-related disorders should not be stigmatized but treated as vital aspects of overall health.
“Mental health is as important as physical health. We must learn to speak up, seek help, and support others going through emotional or psychological challenges,” Dr. Ilemobayo advised.
In his remarks, Engr. Kasali reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the health and well-being of residents, noting that a mentally healthy population is the foundation for a progressive community.
“ Our administration believes that good health goes beyond the absence of disease—it includes mental and emotional stability.
We will continue to support programmes that foster healthy living and community resilience,” he stated.
The Chairman further commended the Health Department of the LCDA, medical practitioners, and volunteers for their commitment to improving health outcomes in Lekki and neighboring communities.
The event also featured free medical screening, counseling sessions, and medication distribution, where residents were tested for common ailments and provided with guidance on maintaining balanced mental and physical health.
Participants appreciated the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, especially in a time when many Nigerians are dealing with stress, economic hardship, and emotional fatigue.
The outreach forms part of Lekki LCDA’s broader efforts to achieve the Lagos State Government’s vision of “Health for All,” through sustainable, community-based health interventions.
