Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Monsuru Akinloye, has announced the commencement of the 2025 Chairman’s Cup — a grassroots football competition designed to promote unity, youth engagement, and sports development across the council area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the annual tournament, which has become one of the most anticipated community sporting events in Eredo, will bring together football teams from various wards to compete for the prestigious title.
This year’s edition is themed “Uniting Hearts, Inspiring Dreams, Building Champions Through Football,” capturing the essence of teamwork, perseverance, and local pride.
Speaking about the initiative, Hon. Akinloye described the competition as more than just a game, but a strategic effort to nurture young talents and strengthen community bonds.
“Football remains one of the strongest tools for peace and social development. Through this tournament, we are not only promoting healthy competition but also discovering and empowering future stars who can represent Eredo, Lagos, and Nigeria,” he said.

He also noted that sports play a key role in youth development, keeping young people productively engaged and away from social vices.
“Our goal is to build a generation of disciplined, talented, and goal-driven youths. The Chairman’s Cup serves as a platform to achieve that,” Hon. Akinloye added.
The upcoming tournament is expected to draw wide participation from local clubs, schools, and football enthusiasts across Eredo. Residents are encouraged to turn out in large numbers to support their teams and celebrate the unifying power of football.
